What advice would you give someone looking to hire an end-of-life doula?
Be sure to do some upfront research and reflection. Understand what is most important to you about the end-of-life and grieving journey; as well as how, when, where, and why you need or want support. Think through the kind of person who will best align with you and /or your family.
Create a list of questions to use when you interview a potential End-of-Life Doula:
1. How do you explain what you do? Specific services? Style and approach?
2. What drew you to this work? How did you get started?
3. What are your strengths? What do you enjoy most about this work? Dislike about this work?
4. What are your credentials and education as an EOL provider?
5. How many clients have you served? Deaths you've attended?
6. What is your philosophy of care and main focuses of care?
7. What is your fee structure?
8. Do you carry liability insurance?
9. As your client, what do you need from me?
10. What happens if this isn't a perfect fit for you or me or you can't fulfill our needs?
